Back in August when we were on vacation in Oahu, Hawaii, after we had a fun day swimming in the ocean at Kailua Beach, we were off to hike the Makapu’u Point Lighthouse trail. The hike was absolutely breathtaking! On Alltrails.com the Makapu’u Point Lighthouse trail is considered an easy out and back hike that is 3.2 miles long. The hike was basically a walk on a paved path and really laid back. I loved that it was a wide path and though it was heavily trafficked trail it was so worth the effort. The beauty of the ocean below and the surrounding islands was so stunning!
It was the perfect trail to do after spending most of the day swimming at the beach. To see a lighthouse in person for the first time was a cool experience. It was built in 1909 and the red roof looked so pretty against the landscape. The trail was scenic with lots of wildflowers and cactus along the way. There were ships in the distance and cool views of the trail winding up. The best part is if you want to see whales you can here from December-May during whale season! We definitely need to come back during this time some day!
We brought the telephoto lens and got tons of shots of the amazing ocean’s waves crashing against the volcanic rocks in gorgeous turquoise and deep blues. You could even walk down to the tidal pools where the oceans waves crashed into the shore. Thomas carried Mila in a basic and lightweight carrier all the way to the top. We made sure to bring her lots of snacks.
This was a really fun hike, that I highly recommend! Afterward we got home and ordered pizza and watched a movie. It was a very eventful and exciting day!
If you are ever in Oahu, Hawaii be sure to check this trail off your list. It’s an easy trail that is perfect for all skill levels and the beauty you will see at the top is breathtaking and totally worth it.
